Why I Gave Up My Cell Phone

by Ken Nubo on July 29, 2010

I haven’t used a cell phone for 1.5 years or so. Today I thought – hey, I’m going to use the computer less, so I’ll just re-activate my phone with an inexpensive $10 / month plan mostly for text.

After 1 hour of trying – couldn’t get a live customer representative (and this is a major wireless cell phone network) – I was like, “Oh yeah? Screw you too”.

I give up. Must be the only guy in the city who doesn’t own a cell phone.

Do you own a cell phone AND a land line? Pro-tip: Go without a land line. Land lines are so 1960s.

The Internet Marketing Life Style is about being THE BOSS – no need to answer anyone.

Besides, I think being interconnected 24/7 is unhealthy – got the black guy in the subway the other day, texting in his black berry for 60 minutes straight. Whatever happened to just reading a book? Or time for quiet comtemplation.

It’s kinda ironic they I don’t use technology much – considering most of my income comes from the Internet. I vow to only be on the Internet 1 hour per day – that’s plenty of time.

I bet alot of people are going to look back and lament the time they waste on Twitter and Facebook. (Thats’ why I log on Facebook once a year and don’t have twitter)

Less time on Internet crap – more time for reading, exercise and socialization.

And – in case you’re addicted to the Internet, here’s my 5 step program for getting off the waste land:

1. Stop using Twitter

2. Stop using Facebook / Other social 2.0 network

3. Check emails once every 3 days. (Haven’t checked my email or reply to one in 2 years – I know, I’m a pro at this)

4. Text once or twice a day on your cell phone

5. If you’re a digital pack rat – get rid of your junk. Delete and empty trash bin.

Good luck bro.
