How to read people

by Ken Nubo on September 26, 2007

As you know, I like poker and women. And when your primary hobby revolves around people, you start to develop a keen sense of reading people’s behaviors. It’s like a six sense. You can spot a lie from their body language and voice intonation. You can spot a dangerous mob guy walking down the street just how he walks, where he pays attention and the movement of his eyes. I spotted rapist many times. I’m like, “What’s up, rapist!” and they go all shifty eyes.

Anyways, the best way to develop on how to read people is … observe!

Start observing tomorrow morning when you go to work. What does the black dude standing in the corner there work as? Go out at 2 in the afternoon and see the people walking down the street. Obviously they don’t have 9 to 5 jobs, what types of occupation do you think they do judging from their mannerism and dress style.

Start talking to the opposite sex and try to get a date. Keep trying. Learn what works and what doesn’t. Ask them to go to the coffee shop with you and have some tea. Whatever you do, observe them carefully.

There is no formal training manual on how to read people, you just start to develop it once you get massive amount of social interaction under your belt. It’s kinda like riding a bike – you don’t learn how to ride a bike by reading, you just do it.

Reading people is one of the most important skills you’ll learn and it’s obvious. Give it a try.
