Work only 4 hours a week

So I bought this book a while ago called “The 4 hours work week” by Tim Ferriss. I saw it on the book self but didn’t buy it, because I thought it’s only of those banal “work hard and save” type of book, but later I encountered some more recommendation on the Internet, raving about this book.
So I brought the book and wasn’t disappointed. The book is unconventional and unorthodox in itself and the author himself puts his money where his mouth is by living the life style he wrote in the book.
He calls himself the “New Rich”, which basically involves working very little on his business and traveling around the globe. Personally I think he just revamp an old term, called Permanent Travelers, whom are rich Europeans who travel from one country to another, never staying long enough to pay taxes. They own big businesses and let the biz system run on it’s own. They literally don’t work a day in their life once the biz starts to go up and running.
He mentions about choosing a new life style called the New Rich, in which you create your own automated business and just work 4 hours a week managing it, instead of the defer life plan (working hard, saving up and retiring when you’re 65. Sounds alike like my Social Script post!)
Basically the book boils down to this:
-
Create an automatic business to let he positive cash flow go in
-
Out source by hiring Indian workers to do most of the work for you
-
Travel around the world, “retire” by working only 4 hours a week by managing the business to the minimum.
-
Not waiting until you’re 65 for retirement, but having ‘mini retirements’ every 4-6 months a year.
-
Different life philosophy – unconventional stuff like being a vagabond, choosing a vocation that you can do for fun and profit. Living life instead of choosing a cubicle career etc.
I learned a few great things from the book; it’s worth every penny.
The book didn’t have a drastic effect on me because I have many similar fundamental philosophy as the author, so it wasn’t a big of a insight. But Timothy did lay out some good tips, from how to create your own automatic business to tips to lighting your load and traveling around the globe.
All in all, it’s a good book to lay the foundation to a new life style creation. It isn’t in depth book that is 500 pages, rather its’ a small book with around 300 or so pages. Not bad, small and straight to the point. All in all, if there is one book you’re going to read this year this is it.
